Day 2   1 comment

Typically I do my grocery shopping on Tuesdays after work. But with Memorial Day being this week, everything is getting pushed back a day, and tomorrow doesn’t work for groceries, so I just decided to bite the bullet and get the necessities over lunch. And what I discovered is: wow, time in a grocery store goes FAST. I almost didn’t make it back by my half hour time limit.

I know Cashwise isn’t everyone’s favorite place to shop, but I’m used to it. Like a holey pair of jeans, I just can’t throw them out.

So I got the basics: apples, bananas, strawberries, broccoli, waffles, lunch for me, eggs, milk, and tuna. Okay, well basics for our family anyway.

While sprinting through the aisles, I saw a grandma with two kids who could only be her grandchildren. Twin boys by the look of them. She didn’t look totally jazzed to be hanging out with her grandkids, like my parents do when our kids hang out with them. I know people are trying to save money in this economy, but using your parents as cheap (or free) daycare? I just don’t know about that. They’ve done their time, they raised you. And now they have a huge hand in raising their grandkids as well? Seems unfair.

I know, for some people it works. And it’s a necessity for sure. Or once in a while, a day a week, that’s cool. But everyday? I think time between grandparents and grandkids should be fun. Kind of no holds barred candy fest or no rules apply. Otherwise the grandparents start having to act like a parent. And that’s no fun.

Well, groceries are in the work fridge. Note to self: please remember groceries before heading home today. No milk for morning cereal means I will have to actually COOK something for breakfast. Like toast.
